Milwaukee Avenue

Milwaukee Avenue is a beautiful street in Minneapolis. When you're at the start, you'll immediately notice it's not an ordinary street. You're greeted with a sign, "No motor vehicles!", telling you that it's a walking street. (Click on the pictures to enlarge them)

Walking further down, one notices the houses have a uniformly beautiful appearance. If you get the feeling that you've gone back in time, you're not alone. The Milwaukee Avenue Homeowner's Association will tell you that most of the houses go back to the 1880s, back when the railroads were being constructed in Minnesota.

The homeowner's association has done a good job. Indeed, even the streetlamps look authentic.

Halfway down the street, a little sign tells us about how Milwaukee Avenue was created.

There's also a playground.

The playground may look deserted, but there's certainly a lot of evidence that children are active around here: chalk markings of rockets fill the pavement. Clearly, a lovely neighborhood to live in.
